I've been telling people how fun Extreme Golf at Cedar Trace is and said I would let folks know when the next one was, well here it is!

December 12th (yes it's cold), weather depending (snow on the ground) at 2:00pm, Dan is putting together his Birthday Extreme. Cost is $30.00 per person - ($15.00 for golf, $10.00 prize money, $5.00 skins game)- so you can't beat that. There should be door prizes and whatnot.. It will be a 4 man scramble, so I'd like to put together a team or two to take there.

Sign up if you are interested and I'll let Dan know. I am NOT going to have a signup on FB for this event since it is not my event. Do it here or email me.

I'm looking forward to this years Cold Extreme!

We are all set for the 2009 Duffers Open on September 5th at 8:00am on beautiful Cedar Trace Golf Course in Owensville, OH. This is our 4th annual event and our second year at Cedar Trace. Dan and the folks there are so kind and it is truly a unique course.

The cost to enter will again be $35 per person and I can help arrange a foursome if you don't have four people in your group, that is usually how we do it anyway. We will have some prizes for lowest team score, closest to the pin and longest drive (if you would like to donate any, let me know..)

We will be utilizing the same scoring method as we did last year which I like to call the Duffers Scoring. It is a combination of a Texas Scramble and a Money Ball scoring scenario. Everyone hits off of the tee. You take the best tee shot and all play from there. You rotate the "money ball" between the four people in your group, write down that score and then take the best score of the other 3. Add those together and you have your hole score.. Trust me, it is easier than it looks. You can also just write down all of the scores and make me do the work!

As of right now, we do not have a limit of folks, but I do need to get Dan a basic number very soon so he has something to shoot for.
Following the Open, we will be getting together afterward at Quaker Steak and Lube in Milford to throw down some brews and wings. We did this last year and it was a lot of fun!

This outing is open to everyone, so please fee free to invite friends and friends of friends. I am really looking forward to this years Open and if the warm up was any indication on the popularity of the event, it should be a good one!

You can sign up and get directions from the link at the top right or visit Facebook and sign up there.
Thanks!
-Mike

Hey all! Just wanted to drop you an off-season note. I've been updating all of my sites from Drupal 5.7 to 6.8 (hopefully one of the last stable 6.x versions) and it was time to hit the ole Duffers Open. I had to switch out the themes, the one we were using was not 6.x compliant and they did not update it. Another reason I've been waiting to update is that it has taken a year to get the modules updated.

I will be working on our Duffers site a bit more, there are a few functions that are not working and some links that no longer work especially involving the Calendar and Date modules. I'll keep working on them, if nothing else deleting and recreating the databases (like you care.)

Anyway, we should be good to go for next year. Keep an eye out for a winter challenge if it warms up. Thanks for checking in!

I just wanted to drop everyone a line. I should have done this after the outing, but just have been crazy busy.

I want to thank everyone who attended the Duffers Open this year, and other than some folks not being able to make it at the last minute and me scrambling to fill 3 groups, we had a good time. I am hoping we can do a little better next year.

I thought the scoring format was a lot of fun, but it really takes about 6 groups or more to make it work really well.

Cedar Trace was in good shape when we played, they had some rain the day before and it softened it up a little bit. I want to thank Dan at Cedar Trace for hosting our event and I am looking forward to working with him again next year.

Look for the Duffers Challenge to fire back up, we might be looking at doing a winter event depending on the interest we can generate. Reply or drop me a line if you are interested in doing a February Challenge.

See you on the links next year!

We've got about 10 days left until the 2008 Duffers Open and I am getting pretty excited. I went out to Cedar Trace today and played 18 holes to "check up" on the course. I had a couple of bad holes, shot a 103, but all in all it was good..

The course (fairways and greens) was in very good shape so we should all be in for a decent round. The pin location for the back 9 was a little difficult, but I think they had a school meet and made it tough.

So despite the signup sheet being bare, we're 7 folks short of 6 foursomes and that is more of just not having them confirmed. We should have 5 groups at the very least.

We have room for 3 more foursomes, so if you know of anyone who would be interested in playing, by all means have them sign up! If you haven't signed up online, please do so, that way I will have everyones information and you should get a reminder via email a day or two before the event.

I can't wait until the 6th.. We're going to have a lot of fun.. See you then!

Howdy folks! All of the details for the 2008 Duffers Open have been finalized and ready to be shared with you!

Here are the quick hits:

  • Date: September 6th, 2008
  • Time: 8:30am Shotgun Start
  • Location: Cedar Trace Golf Club
  • Cost: $32.00 (inc. 18 hole fees & cart)
  • Format: Duffers Scramble (see below)
  • Awards for: Low Score (Team), Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive and maybe some side awards.

This year we will be again moving the Duffers Open to a new course, Cedar Trace Golf Club near Batavia, OH. I've played this course a few times and for the cost, it can not be beat. It is not a terribly difficult course and has a few really fun holes, everything us duffers like to see.

Also, this year we will be holding the event the week after labor day. It seems that a lot of folks could not attend labor day weekend, so I hope pushing it back will help out in that respect. September 6th is the date! We will be teeing off around 8:30 in the AM as a shotgun start. There will be another small group going out at the same time as us so we need to be on time. The good news is that it will get us done a little earlier than in the past!

As is one of our Duffers Open Goals, we like to keep the cost of the event around thirty bucks and we will be doing just that. Cost of the round of 18 with a cart is $32. More....

Tony and I had a good time at Cedar Trace. It is looking like a serious possibility for hosting the Duffers Open in September.

As of right now, there will not be a July Duffers Challenge unless someone would like to step up and put it together. You are very welcome to in fact.

Unless someone wants to head up north to Glen Arbor MI and play with me up there. I'm going to try to sneak my clubs with me on vacation even if I only get to take 6 of them.

Stay tuned for the Duffers Open news to come. I need to call Cedar Trace and see about availability.

Ok, I know it is last minute but since no one signed up for the last event, Tony Strub and I decided to play anyway. California was packed until 2:30 so I called a course a little on the outskirts. Cedar Trace in Batavia (Owensville). I've played this course a few years back at my cousins bachleor party and remembered it being pretty decent. Cost is around $37 with a cart.

We have a 9:40 tee time and and there is room for a couple more people, so hurry and sign up!

If you'd like to find out more information, their site is CedarTrace Golf and also info at GolfLink.com.
