If you only play golf once a year, this is your tournament!
The 2008 Duffers Open at Cedar Trace Golf Club

Howdy folks! All of the details for the 2008 Duffers Open have been finalized and ready to be shared with you!

Here are the quick hits:

  • Date: September 6th, 2008
  • Time: 8:30am Shotgun Start
  • Location: Cedar Trace Golf Club
  • Cost: $32.00 (inc. 18 hole fees & cart)
  • Format: Duffers Scramble (see below)
  • Awards for: Low Score (Team), Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive and maybe some side awards.

This year we will be again moving the Duffers Open to a new course, Cedar Trace Golf Club near Batavia, OH. I've played this course a few times and for the cost, it can not be beat. It is not a terribly difficult course and has a few really fun holes, everything us duffers like to see.

Also, this year we will be holding the event the week after labor day. It seems that a lot of folks could not attend labor day weekend, so I hope pushing it back will help out in that respect. September 6th is the date! We will be teeing off around 8:30 in the AM as a shotgun start. There will be another small group going out at the same time as us so we need to be on time. The good news is that it will get us done a little earlier than in the past!

As is one of our Duffers Open Goals, we like to keep the cost of the event around thirty bucks and we will be doing just that. Cost of the round of 18 with a cart is $32. More.... There is an option of a hamburger/hotdog buffet afterwards for $9.75. I am adding that as an option to the sign-up form, check it if you are interested. If we have enough folks interested, we will do it.

Last year we tried out the Texas Scramble option as a format and I thought it worked out very well so we are going to bring that back in addition to the Money Ball scoring format to create what I am calling the "Duffers Scramble". I know it sounds complicated, but it really isn't - here is how it is going to work. The Texas Scramble rules are that only the tee-off is best ball. Everyone in the group hits their tee shot. The best (most playable) tee shot counts. Everyone then continues their play from that spot and plays their own ball. You score your individual score from that point. You MUST use at least one drive from everyone on the front and on the back 9. Then comes the scoring - the Money Ball. Each team will be provided with a "money ball" and that ball gets rotated through each person every four holes. That score will be one of the two used to calculate the total for that hole. The other portion of the score will be the lowest of the 3 remaining. What this provides is if someone isn't a strong driver, they don't have to play from the woods every time, yet everyone gets their own score. If you have two good players, you do rotate everyones score through the final total and so it is more balanced. This from here on out will be known as the "Duffers Scramble" scoring format!

Phew - got that out of the way. Seriously, it will be easier than it sounds and should keep scores competitive
amongst groups. Finally we will be doing the traditional longest/closest awards and maybe throw in a side bet or two, but we'll determine those when we group up in the morning.

I think that about covers everything, please leave comments, suggestions and questions here so we can all share. Be sure to SIGN UP so we know who is coming. It makes it a lot easier on me when everyone signs up on the site!

Thanks all! I can't wait until this years Duffers Open!
